About Beirut Design Week
Established in 2012, Beirut Design Week is the largest growing design festival in the Middle East & North Africa. Bringing together more than 25,000 visitors at over 150 events in various locations around Beirut, BDW strengthens creative economies and fosters entrepreneurship, all within the context of region’s rich cultural heritage.
Challenge
Since 2012, Beirut Design Week has been using a printed booklet and map with the event details, exhibitions and design landmarks for people to manually jot down and follow. How do we turn this tactile interface into an engaging mobile application?
Achievements
Together with the visual design team, we created the mobile version of the directory of participants, the events listed, the walking map. We included saving modes, filtering, and programming along with an interactive map.

Service Ecosystem Map
The service takes into account several actors from design event attendees, exhibitiors, designers and design studios, Exhibition space owners, press, design stores, manufacturing, along with the people working behind the scenes at design week and at the respective events.
Contents
The directory (Design Studios & Designers archive)
The directory holds all the participants of the design week for the given year. This means individual designers & design studios alike. It also features the speakers for the panels and the workshop organizers.
3. Map of design landmarks and pop-up events
All the locations were laid out by numbers grouping the numbers today by date. Since there are different openings on different days, the numbers worked to locate a space on the map and see which to follow.
2. The program (7 days of events & workshops)
The daily program was a printed brochure which included the events happening throughout the week along with their location, time, and type of event.
4. The Publication
The feature included writings, learnings, summaries, and knowledge that the design week generated in a given year. This could be in the form of design research or contributions from participants to build design and cultural knowledge.
A day Schedule
You can use the day schedule browser to look into what to expect each day of the event series.
Generate Map
The app generates a daily walk map based on your selected events you are attending optimized to keep people in schedule in accordance to opening times of events.

Filtering is done either by
